유럽연합(EU)이 '빅테크 갑질'을 막기 위해 페이스북 모회사 메타에 대한 제재에 나설 전망이다.

1일(현지시간) 파이낸셜타임스(FT)는 EU가 메타에 대한 예비조사에서 페이스북과 인스타그램의 '유료 또는 동의(pay or consent)' 모델이 디지털시장법(DMA)을 위반했다는 결론을 내렸다고 보도했다.'유료 또는 동의' 모델은 사용자가 서비스 이용료를 내지 않으려면 광고 목적 데이터 수집에 동의해야 한다는 메타의 자체 규정이다.EU는 해당 규정이 사용자에게 불리한 내용을 담았다고 판단했다.

이에 대해 메타는 성명을 통해 "'유료 또는 동의' 모델은 EU 최고재판소 판례와 DMA 조항에 부합한다"며 "EU 집행위원회와 건설적 대화를 나누길 기대한다"고 밝혔다.

EU는 메타에 대한 통보와 해명·반론 청취 과정 등을 거쳐 제재 수위를 최종 결정할 예정이다.

한편 EU는 애플의 앱스토어 운영방식의 폐쇄성을 이유로 최근 DMA법 위반 잠정결론 사실을 통보한 바 있다.또 마이크로소프트는 자사 화상채팅앱 프로그램을 다른 오피스프로그램에 '끼워팔기'한 혐의로 제재 선상에 올랐다.
