쿠팡이 홈플러스 익스프레스 인수를 검토하고 있지 않다고 어제(11일) 밝혔습니다.

사모펀드(PEF) 운용사 MBK파트너스는 지난 2015년 9월 7조2천억원을 들여 홈플러스를 인수하면서 블라인드 펀드로 2조2천억원을 투입하고 나머지 5조원은 홈플러스 명의로 대출받았습니다.

이후 홈플러스 점포 20여개를 팔아 4조원에 가까운 빚을 갚고 현재 4천여억원을 남겨둔 상태입니다.

MBK는 이커머스 급성장 속에 홈플러스를 통째로 재매각할 가능성이 작아지자 슈퍼마켓인 홈플러스 익스프레스 310여개부터 분할해 매각하기로 하고 지난달 초 모건스탠리를 매각 주관사로 선정했습니다.

투자은행(IB) 업계는 기존 대형 유통기업과 쿠팡·알리바바그룹 등 이커머스 업체들이 홈플러스 익스프레스를 매입할 가능성이 있다고 내다봤습니다.

지난달 중순 홈플러스 직원들 사이에서 본점을 방문한 중국인을 봤다는 소문까지 퍼지면서 알리익스프레스의 홈플러스 인수설이 불거졌으나,충무로 로또알리익스프레스 코리아는 지난달 18일 "인수에 참여하지 않는다"고 공식 입장을 밝혔습니다.

최근에는 쿠팡이 홈플러스 익스프레스를 지역거점 물류센터로 활용해 신선식품을 1시간 안팎에 배송하는 퀵커머스(즉시배송)에 진출하고자 MBK와 협상에 나섰다는 얘기가 IB 업계에서 흘러나왔습니다.

그러나 쿠팡도 "홈플러스 익스프레스 인수를 검토하고 있지 않다"고 선을 그었습니다.
