과거 제자와 부적절한 편지를 주고받아 '품위유지위반'으로 징계받은 전력으로 논란을 일으킨 박정현 한국교원단체총연합회(교총) 신임 회장이 자진 사퇴했다.

박 신임 회장은 27일 교총을 통해 낸 입장문에서 "교총의 모든 선생님께 깊이 사죄하고 모든 책임을 통감한다"며 사퇴 의사를 밝혔다.

박 회장은 이어 "제 지난 과오와 실수로 교총과 회원님,월드컵 문신그리고 전국의 선생님들께 심려를 끼치고 명예에 누를 끼친 데 대해 깊이 사죄드린다"고 덧붙였다.

박 회장은 인천 부원여중 교사로 지난 20일 교총 회장 선거에서 교총 역사상 최연소로 회장에 당선됐다.

박 회장은 2013년 인천의 한 고등학교에서 3학년 담임을 맡던 도중 징계위원회에 회부돼 경징계인 '견책' 조치를 받고,월드컵 문신인근 중학교로 전근을 간 것으로 확인됐다.

박 회장 측은 당초 특정 학생에게 각별한 관심을 갖고 지도하는 과정에서 편애라는 민원이 들어와 징계를 받았다고 주장했으나 해당 학생에게 보낸 편지 내용이 밝혀지면서 사퇴를 요구하는 목소리가 커졌다.

박 회장은 당시 학생에게 보낸 편지에 '어제보다 오늘 더 사랑한다',월드컵 문신'당장이라도 안아주고 싶다' 등의 내용을 적었다.

교총은 박 회장의 사퇴에 따라 차기 회장단 선출 전까지 문태혁 수석 부회장 직무대행 체제로 운영될 예정이다.
