(서울=연합뉴스) 임순현 기자 = 2017년 영국 로열오페라하우스에 초연돼 전석 매진을 기록하며 화제를 모은 오페라 '오텔로'가 한국에서 첫 무대를 선보인다.

예술의전당은 오는 8월 18∼25일 서울 서초구 예술의전당 오페라하우스에서 오페라 '오텔로'를 공연한다고 18일 밝혔다.

2017년 영국 로열오페라하우스가 세계적인 오페라 작곡가 주세페 베르디의 역작 '오텔로'를 기반으로 제작한 작품이다.흑인 장군 오텔로가 백인들의 증오와 그로 인한 자신의 열등감 때문에 파멸에 이르는 과정을 그린다.

뉴욕 메트로폴리탄오페라와 밀라노 라 스칼라 극장,온라인 포커 헤즈업런던 로열오페라하우스 등 세계적인 극장에서 활동한 테너 이용훈이 오텔로 역을 맡았다.루마니아 출신 테너 테오도르 일린커이가 이용훈과 번갈아 오텔로를 연기한다.

악역 이아고 역에는 이탈리아 출신 바리톤 마르코 브라토냐와 조지아 출신 바리톤 니콜로즈 라그빌라바가 출연한다.

또 이탈리아의 세계적인 오페라 지휘자인 카를로 리치가 포디엄에 올라 국립심포니오케스트라를 이끈다.

예술의전당은 본 공연에 앞서 사전 무료 강의(프리렉쳐 Pre·Free-lecture)를 열어 한국 관객들의 이해를 도울 계획이다.

음악평론가 유정우가 오페라 '오텔로'의 탄생부터 작품 속 시대적 배경과 역사,온라인 포커 헤즈업등장인물 간의 심리 등을 해설한다.

강의는 7월 중 예술의전당에서 진행할 예정이다.
