[서울=뉴시스]이재준 기자 = 유럽연합(EU) 집행기관 유럽위원회는 7일(현지시각) 우크라이나와 몰도바가 EU에 가입 협상을 개시하기 위해 필요한 조건을 모두 충족했다고 발표했다.

AFP와 AP 통신 등에 따르면 유럽위원회는 이날 우크라이나와 몰도바의 EU 가입과 관련해 이 같은 판단을 내렸다고 전했다.

이에 우크라이나 데니스 시미할 총리는 이르면 이달에도 EU와 교섭에 들어갈 수 있기를 기대한다고 밝혔다.

유럽위원회 아나 피소네로 대변인은 "협상 기제를 승인하는 건 회원국들이며 결정권을 회원국이 쥐고 있다"면서 "그런 단계가 끝나면 EU 의장국이 정부간 회의를 소집해 교섭 개시를 정식으로 선언하는 권한을 갖는다"고 언급했다.

우크라이나와 몰도바에 대한 유럽위원회 평가는 전문가에 의한 실무그룹에서 논의하고서 다음주 EU 회원국 대사들이 관련 협의를 한다.

EU 27개 회원국은 협상 틀을 승인하고 교섭 시작을 만장일치로 합의할 필요가 있다.

6월 말까지 EU 의장국을 맡은 벨기에는 회원국의 만장일치 승인을 받으면 6월25일에 룩셈부르크에서 우크라이나,레드스타 키우기몰도바와 정부간 회담을 여는 수순을 밟는다.

의장국 벨기에와 유럽위원회는 6월 안에 합의를 서둘러 도출하겠다는 생각이라고 한다.

7월부터 반년간 우크라이나의 EU 가입에 소극적인 헝가리가 EU 의장국에 오르면 2025년까지 전체 가입 프로세스를 늦출 가능성이 크게 때문이다.
