이태원 참사 당시 부실 대응한 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 박희영(63) 서울 용산구청장에게 검찰이 징역 7년을 구형했다.

검찰은 15일 서울서부지법 형사합의11부(부장 배성중) 심리로 열린 용산구청 관계자 4명의 재판에서 박 구청장에게 징역 7년을 선고해달라고 재판부에 요청했다.

검찰은 “박 전 구청장은 이번 사고를 막을 큰 책임자 중 한 사람”이라며 “사고를 막기 위한 어떤 실질적인 조치도 하지 않았다”고 밝혔다.이어 “사고 이후 책임을 피하고자 책임을 다한 것처럼 보도자료 배포했다”고 설명했다.

함께 재판을 받는 최원준(60) 전 용산구 안전재난과장에게는 징역 3년,야구 2번유승재(58) 전 용산구 부구청장과 문인환 전 용산구 안전건설교통국장에게는 각각 금고 2년을 선고해달라고 재판부에 요청했다.

이들은 참사 당일 대규모 인파로 인한 사상사고 발생을 예견할 수 있었는데도 안전관리계획을 세우지 않고,야구 2번상시 재난안전상황실을 적정히 운영하지 않은 혐의(업무상과실치사상) 등으로 지난해 1월 기소됐다.

한편,야구 2번유가족 측 대변인인 최종현 변호사는 이날 “법원은 법이 허용하는 최대한의 엄벌을 피고인에게 처하시고 다시는 이런 참사는 지방자치단체의 책임이 아니라는 변명이 반복되지 않도록 선례를 남겨달라”고 요구했다.
