[헤럴드경제=한영대 기자] 국제원자력기구(IAEA)는 일본의 후쿠시마 제1원전 오염수(일본 정부 명칭‘처리수’) 7차 방류를 현장 점검한 결과 오염수 내 방사성 핵종 농도가 일본 자체 기준치를 크게 밑돌았다고 28일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

IAEA에 따르면 후쿠시마 제1원전에 상주 중인 IAEA 전문가들이 샘플을 채취해 독립적으로 분석했다.그 결과 샘플의 삼중수소 농도가 일본의 운영 기준치(1500Bq/L)에 훨씬 못 미치는 것으로 파악됐다.

일본의 운영 기준치는 다른 국제 안전기준보다 엄격하다.세계보건기구(WHO)가 제시한 식수 수질 가이드 상의 삼중수소 농도 기준치는 1만 Bq/L이다.

도쿄전력은 이날부터 내달 16일까지 오염수를 해양 방류한다.이번까지 7차례에 걸친 IAEA의 독립적인 현장 점검에서 삼중수소 농도는 모두 일본 기준치를 크게 하회하는 것으로 나왔다.

지난해 8월 첫 해양 방류를 시작해 지난달까지 6차례에 걸쳐 총 4만7000t가량의 오염수를 후쿠시마 원전 앞 바다에 내보냈다.이번 7차 방류에서 내보낼 물의 양은 종전과 같은 규모인 7800t이다.

오염수는 2011년 후쿠시마 원전 사고로 오염된 물을 다핵종제거설비(ALPS)로 처리한 뒤 탱크에 저장해둔 물이다.도쿄전력은 ALPS를 거쳐도 제거되지 않는 삼중수소(트리튬) 농도를 국제기준보다 훨씬 낮은 수준까지 희석하는 공정을 거쳐 바닷물로 내보내고 있다는 입장이다.
