현대자동차 장재훈 사장이 미국 조지아주에 설립되는 공장에서 전기차 생산에 집중하겠다는 뜻을 밝혔습니다.

한국을 방문한 브라이언 켐프 미국 조지아 주지사는 17일 여의도 한 호텔에서 국내 기업을 초청해‘조지아의 밤’행사를 열고 투자 유치 세일즈에 나섰습니다.

장재훈 사장은 조지아주 공장에서 하이브리드 차량을 생산할 가능성에 대해 "일단 전기차가 가장 우선이다"며 "전기차에 대한 수요가 예상보다 변동되는 부분이 있어도 긍정적으로 전기차에 (집중해)가는 방향이 저희는 맞다고 생각한다"고 답했습니다.

장 사장은 "조지아주 사바나에 신공장을 건립할 예정이고 수소 물류 등 새로운 시도를 할 예정이라 기대가 크다"고 말했습니다.

또 "현대차 뿐 아니라 한국 기업이 조지아주에 가장 많이 진출돼 있고,노스캐롤라이나 대학교투자 규모도 크다"며 "조지아주와 협력관계 강화 등 얘기를 나눌 예정"이라고 말했습니다.

현대차는 조지아주에 현대차그룹 메가플랜트 아메리카(HMGMA)를 짓고 있습니다.이 자리에는 LG엔솔 김동명 사장을 비롯해 국내 대기업 경영진이 다수 참석했습니다.
