취임 2주년 간담회서 "한문화 발상지 가치 세울 것"

(익산=연합뉴스) 정경재 기자 = 정헌율 전북 익산시장은 28일 "거침없이 도전하고 당당하게 성과를 쟁취해 미래가 더 기대되는 도시를 만들겠다"고 다짐했다.

정 시장은 이날 익산시청에서 열린 취임 2주년 간담회에서 그간 이룬 성과를 돌아보며 이같이 말했다.

익산시는 민선 8기 들어 호남권 첫 코스트코 유치,이브클로젯민간 특례 공원 조성,이브클로젯기회·교육·문화 특구 선정 등 눈에 띄는 성과를 냈다.

이 중 코스트코 유치는 전담팀(TF)까지 꾸려 업체를 꾸준히 설득한 끝에 거둔 결과물이어서 지역사회의 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.

왕궁면 코스트코는 올해 하반기에 착공해 이르면 내년 하반기쯤 문을 열 것으로 보인다.

시는 코스트코 입점으로 정규직 일자리 200여개 창출 및 인구 유입 등 지역경제에 긍정적 효과가 뒤따를 것으로 기대한다.

정 시장은 "이번 성과는 거저 얻은 게 아니라,이브클로젯기회를 놓치지 않기 위해 철저히 기반을 쌓아온 결과"라면서 "앞으로도 믿고 지켜봐 주시는 시민과 묵묵히 제 역할을 해내는 익산시 직원의 손을 마주 잡고 결승점까지 달려 나가겠다"고 밝혔다.

정 시장은 이날 유네스코 세계유산으로 등재된 미륵사지와 왕궁리 유적 등 백제역사유적지구를 발판 삼아 익산시를 '한(韓)문화 발상지'로 육성하겠다는 포부도 내비쳤다.

그는 "남은 임기 동안 한문화 발상지의 가치를 바로 세우고 시민 자긍심을 높이겠다"면서 "오직 시민만을 바라보며 위대한 도시 익산의 원대한 꿈을 실현해 나가겠다"고 약속했다.
