삼성전자 엑시노스 W1000.[삼성전자 제공] 삼성전자가 업계 최초로 3나노(㎚·10억분의 1m) 공정으로 만든 웨어러블용 프로세서 '엑시노스 W1000'을 공개했다.

삼성전자는 3일 공식 홈페이지에서 게이트올어라운드(GAA)를 처음 적용한 웨어러블용 애플리케이션프로세서(AP) '엑시노스 W1000'을 발표했다.

AP는 중앙처리장치(CPU),컴퓨터 파워 접지그래픽처리장치(GPU),컴퓨터 파워 접지모뎀 등 시스템 블록들을 하나의 칩으로 구현한 시스템 온 칩(SoC)이다.삼성전자의 AP를 브랜드화한 것이 엑시노스다.

엑시노스 W1000은 삼성전자가 만든 최초의 웨어러블 프로세서로 하나의 빅코어와 네 개의 리틀코어로 구성된 새로운 CPU 구조를 택해 강력한 퍼포먼스와 높은 효율성을 지닌다.전작인 '엑시노스 W930' 대비 성능을 3.7배 향상했으며 저전력더블데이터레이트(LPDDR)5를 탑재해 전력 효율을 높였다.2.5D AOD (Always-On Display) 엔진을 탑재했다.

삼성전자는 엑시노스 W1000을 조만간 출시할 '갤럭시워치7'에 탑재할 것으로 보인다.삼성전자는 "엑시노스 W1000은 3나노 공정을 적용한 삼성의 첫 프로세서 제품"이라며 "선단 제조 공정과 패키징 방식을 활용해 작은 사이즈를 유지하면서도 성능을 개선할 수 있고 배터리 공간을 더 확보하는 것은 물론 스마트워치 디자인에도 유연성을 더할 수 있다"고 말했다.
