중국에서는 대도시를 중심으로 운전자가 없는 자율주행 로보택시가 급격하게 늘고 있습니다.

저렴한 요금으로 인기를 끌고 있는데,동대문 로또택시 기사들은 일자리를 뺏기고 있다며 당국에 사용 제한을 호소했습니다.

베이징 김효신 특파원입니다.

[리포트]

중국에서 처음으로 최근 자율주행 로보택시가 상업 운행을 시작한 우한시입니다.

앱으로 예약한 택시가 도착한 뒤 승객이 창문 화면에 전화 번호 뒷자리를 입력하면 문이 열립니다.

운전자 없이 운전대가 자동으로 돌아가며 운행합니다.

사람의 눈 역할을 하는 라이더 덕에 꽉 막힌 길에서도 앞차와 간격을 유지합니다.

[로보택시 승객 : "와~ 차 옆에 진짜 사람 한 명이 지나가고 있어요.화면에 한 명 표시돼 있는데."]

우한에서만 500대가 운행 중입니다.

하지만 100% 안전을 보장할 수 없다는 불안감은 여전합니다.

최근 로보택시가 운행 중 보행자를 들이받았습니다.

회사 측은 보행자가 신호를 위반해 사고가 났다고 해명했습니다.

이 같은 사고 우려에도 로보택시 요금이 일반 택시에 절반에도 못 미쳐 한 달에 300만 명이 이용할 정도로 인기를 끌고 있습니다.

당장 일반 택시 업계는 매출 감소라는 타격을 받았습니다.

한 택시 회사는 "로보택시가 일자리를 뺏고 있다"며 로보택시 사용을 제한해 달라고 당국에 호소문을 보냈습니다.

로보택시는 베이징과 상하이 등 중국 7개 도시로 확대될 예정입니다.

로보택시는 하루 24시간 운행이 가능해 한 대당 기사 2~3명을 대체할 수 있다는 전망도 나오고 있습니다.
