포스코이앤씨가 국내 유일의 원자력 종합 연구개발 기관인 한국원자력연구원과 미래 신성장 사업 기술개발에 나선다.

포스코이앤씨는 송도사옥에서 포스코이앤씨 전중선 사장과 주한규 한국원자력연구원장이 참석한 가운데 '고온가스로 (HTGR) 개발 사업 협력'을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 15일 밝혔다.

이번 협약을 통해 포스코이앤씨는 한국원자력연구원이 개발한 고온가스로(HTGR) 기술을 바탕으로 독자노형 확보를 위한 공동연구,v리그 시상식기술이전,v리그 시상식인력지원,v리그 시상식실증사업추진 및 수출 기반 상용화 등 전 영역에서 협력할 예정이다.

HTGR(High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor)는 방사능에 오염되지 않는 헬륨을 냉각재로 사용하고,v리그 시상식흑연을 감속재로 사용해 750℃의 고온열을 생산하는 원자로를 가리킨다.

HTGR은 1600℃ 이상에서도 방사능이 방출되지 않는 삼중피복입자 핵연료(TRISO)를 사용해 후쿠시마 사고와 같이 외부전원이 상실되거나 운전원 조치가 불가능한 극한 사고에서도 자연냉각만으로 원자로의 안전성이 확보되는 4세대 원자로다.

포스코이앤씨는 이번 MOU 체결을 계기로 향후 전력 생산에만 활용되었던 원자력의 활용을 다양한 비발전 분야까지 확장한다는 계획이다.
