불이 시작된 건 궤도 작업용 특수차량입니다.

하행선 선로에서 작업을 하던 중 차량 엔진룸에 있는 리튬 배터리에 불이 붙은 겁니다.

다친 사람은 없었지만 진화에 어려움을 겪었습니다.

리튬 배터리 특성상 열과 충격에 취약해 폭발 위험이 크기 때문입니다.

소방은 열폭주를 우려해 차량을 기지로 끌고간 뒤 배터리만 떼어내 대형 수조에 넣어 불을 껐습니다.

불은 신고접수 약 5시간 만인 아침 8시 40분쯤 완전히 꺼졌습니다.

소방 관계자는 "리튬 배터리는 불꽃이 없어졌다고 진화가 완료된 게 아니라서 시간이 오래 걸렸다"고 설명했습니다.

현재 서울교통공사가 보유한 리튬 배터리 특수차량은 모두 33대입니다.

시민들은 불안합니다.

[차혜빈/시민 : 지하철에 타고 있으면 이게 리튬배터리에서 터진 건지 그냥 불이 난 건지 모르는데 뭐부터 해야 될지 모를 것 같아요.괜히 물을 뿌렸다가 더 불이 커질 수도 있으니까.]

서울교통공사는 특수차량 화재와 관련된 매뉴얼이 있다고 밝혔지만 내용을 공개하진 않았습니다.

소방당국은 경찰 등과 함께 이달 4일부터 정확한 화재 원인 조사에 들어갈 예정입니다.
