교육당국이 수사에 나서자 A씨는 경찰에 찾아가 자수했다.경찰은 체포 후 유기 장소 등을 찾았으나 이미 수년이 지나 별다른 단서를 찾지 못했다.

당시 A씨가 버린 아이는 현재까지 생사를 알 수 없는 상태다.

A씨는 유기 당시 미혼모였으며 유기 이후에도 2022년 말까지 정부 양육 수당과 아동수당 등 총 15천00만원 상당을 받았던 것으로 조사됐다.
