서울시는 민선 8기 후반기 대외협력 업무를 총괄할 신임 정무부시장에 김병민 전 국민의힘 최고위원을 임명했다고 30일 밝혔다.

정무부시장은 시장을 보좌해 국회,레알 마드리드 대 셀타 비고시의회,레알 마드리드 대 셀타 비고언론,레알 마드리드 대 셀타 비고정당과 서울시 업무를 협의·조정하는 자리로 시장이 임명하는 차관급 정무직공무원이다.시는 김 신임 정무부시장을 발탁한 이유로 언론 대응에 정통하며 시민과의 소통 능력에 강점이 있는 인물이기 때문이라고 언급했다.

1982년생인 김 신임 정무부시장은 2008년 경희대 경제통상학부를 졸업하고 같은 대학에서 석사와 박사 과정을 마쳤다.2010년 서울 서초구의회 의원에 당선되면서 정치권에 입문했고 2015년 국민의힘 산하 정책연구소인 여의도연구원에서 정책자문위원으로 활동한 바 있다.

2020년 국민의힘 서울특별시당 광진갑 당원협의회위원장을 거쳐 2021년 국민의힘 대변인을 지냈다.2022년 제8회 지방선거 당시 오세훈 후보 캠프 대변인을 지낸 경험도 있다.제20대 대통령 선거에는 국민의힘 윤석열 후보 대변인,레알 마드리드 대 셀타 비고지난해 국민의힘 최고위원을 지냈다.

김 신임 정무부시장은 "오세훈 서울시정을 알리는 1호 영업사원으로 뛰며 시의 소통역할을 강화하겠다"며 "이를 위해 정당·국회와 서울시 간 가교가 돼 약자와의 동행 등 핵심 정책의 전국화를 이뤄내겠다"고 말했다.

이어 "특히 청년세대와의 접점을 늘려 서울시 정책이 세대를 아울러 공감대를 얻을 수 있게 노력하겠다"고 강조했다.
