[서울=뉴시스]홍연우 기자 = 야권 유력 정치인을 협박해 돈을 갈취하려 한 70대 남성이 구속 상태로 재판에 넘겨졌다.

1일 서울남부지검 형사4부(부장검사 남수연)는 지난달 27일 70대 무직 남성 A씨를 공갈미수 혐의로 구속기소했다고 밝혔다.

검찰에 따르면 A씨는 약 10년 전 피해자를 위해 수천만원을 사용했다고 일방적으로 주장하며 변제를 요구했다가 거절당했다.

이에 A씨는 지난해 8월부터 올해 5월까지 총 30회에 걸쳐 피해자에게 폭력을 행사하거나 피해자의 명예를 실추하는 내용의 문자메시지를 전송하는 방식으로 협박하며 금품을 요구한 것으로 조사됐다.

검찰은 A씨가 과거에도 같은 내용으로 피해자를 협박해 수사받은 사실이 있는 점 등을 고려하면 재범 위험성이 높다고 보고 경찰과 협력해 구속영장을 발부받았다.

검찰 관계자는 "피고인에게 범죄에 상응하는 처벌이 이뤄지도록 공소유지에 만전을 기하고,무료 온라인 카지노국민의 신체와 재산을 위협하는 강력범죄에 엄정히 대응하겠다"고 밝혔다．
