김영록 전남도지사는 "2026여수세계섬박람회 개최로 대한민국 섬의 가치와 매력을 전 세계에 알리고 대한민국의 새로운 패러다임,'신 남해안 시대'를 열어갈 수 있도록 준비에 최선을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.

정기명 여수시장은 "세계 최초의 섬박람회 개최를 통해 '세계 속 여수'로 나아갈 것"이라며 "섬박람회 성공 개최를 위해 행정력을 집중하겠다"고 말했다.

박수관 위원장은 "조직위 공동위원장으로서 여수시,남해안을 넘어 전 세계인의 축제가 될 수 있도록 민·산·학·관의 역량을 결집해 나가겠다"고 말했다.

정부 승인 국제행사인 2026여수세계섬박람회는 '섬,바다와 미래를 잇다'라는 주제로 2026년 9월 5일부터 11월 4일까지 여수시 돌산읍 진모지구와 여수세계박람회장,섬 지역 일원에서 열린다.섬주제관,미래관,생태문화관,글로벌네트워크관 등 전시연출과 섬체험 놀이터 등 오감만족 콘텐츠를 통해 30개국 300만 명 유치를 목표로 하고 있다.
