국민건강보험공단 역대 최대 규모의 횡령 사건을 저지르고 해외로 도피했다가 1년 4개월 만에 검거된 최 모(46) 씨에게 검찰이 징역 25년을 구형했습니다.

춘천지법 원주지원 형사1부(이수웅 부장판사) 심리로 열린 결심공판에서 검찰은 최 씨에게 징역 25년과 39억 원을 추징하는 선고를 재판부에 요청했다고 오늘(28일) 밝혔습니다.

최 씨는 국민건강보험공단 재정관리팀장이던 2022년 4∼9월 공단 내부 전산망을 조작하는 등 18차례에 걸쳐 총 46억 원을 횡령한 혐의로 지난 2월 구속기소 됐습니다.

경찰 수사 결과 최 씨는 횡령한 자금을 가상화폐로 환전해 범죄 수익을 은닉한 것으로 드러났습니다.

건보공단은 2022년 9월 최 씨를 경찰에 고발하고,일련번호민사소송으로 계좌 압류·추심 등을 진행해 지난해 횡령액 46억 원 중 약 7억 2천만 원을 회수했습니다.

필리핀으로 도피한 최 씨를 인터폴 적색 수배한 경찰은 추적팀을 편성해 1년 4개월간 뒤를 쫓은 끝에 지난 1월 9일 마닐라 고급 리조트에서 최 씨를 검거했습니다.

재판에서 검찰의 공소사실을 모두 인정한 최 씨는 남은 돈의 행방에 대해 "선물투자로 다 잃었다"고 진술했습니다.

수사 과정에서 최 씨는 가상화폐 투자 실패 등으로 많은 채무를 부담하게 되자 채무변제,일련번호가상화폐 투자 등을 위해 이같이 범행한 것으로 드러났습니다.

최 씨에 대한 선고공판은 오는 7월 18일 오후 1시 50분 원주지원에서 열립니다.
