[세종=뉴시스] 박영주 기자 = 보건복지부는 17일부터 어린이집,유치원,첼시 뉴캐슬초·중·고교 경계 30m 이내까지 금연 구역으로 지정되고 해당 구역에서 흡연 시 10만원 이하의 과태료가 부과된다고 15일 밝혔다.

그동안 '국민건강증진법' 개정을 통해 어린이집·유치원 주변의 금연 구역 확대 및 '초·중등교육법'에 따른 학교 주변 금연 구역 신설이 결정된 바 있으며 1년간 시행 유예를 거쳐 17일부터 본격 시행된다.

교육시설 주변의 금연 구역 확대 조치는 간접흡연으로부터 아동·청소년을 보호하고 건강 증진을 도모하기 위한 취지다.이번 금연 구역 확대에 따라 각 시·군·구청에서는 어린이집,첼시 뉴캐슬유치원,초·중·고등학교 시설의 경계 30m 이내가 금연 구역임을 알리는 표지를 건물 담장,벽면,도로 등에 설치·부착하는 등 관련 조치를 이행해야 한다.

복지부와 한국건강증진개발원은 포스터·표지·현수막 등 홍보물을 제작해 지방자치단체에 배포하고 지역사회에 널리 안내될 수 있도록 홍보를 실시할 계획이다.각종 홍보물은 한국건강증진개발원 및 국가금연지원센터 누리집에서도 확인할 수 있다.

배경택 복지부 건강정책국장은 "교육시설 주변의 금연 구역 확대는 간접흡연에 취약한 아동·청소년의 건강 보호를 위해 필요한 조치"라며 "앞으로도 지역 사회 금연 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.
