서울 도심 한복판에서 어젯밤 일어난 사고 소식 먼저 전하겠습니다.

모두 9명이 숨졌습니다.

경찰은 급발진으로 인한 사고라고 주장하는 운전자를 입건했습니다.

서울 시청역 근처 길거리에 사람들이 삼삼오오 서서 이야기를 나눕니다.

갑자기 사람들 뒤로 불빛이 번쩍이더니 무서운 속도로 덮친 자동차에 길거리가 아수라장으로 변합니다.

어젯밤 9시 반쯤 한 호텔에서 나와 역주행을 시작한 승용차가 인도를 덮친 뒤 승용차 2대를 들이받았습니다.

[사고 목격자]
"너무 놀랐고요.저희 횡단보도 지나자마자 굉장한 굉음으로 스포츠카 같은 게 지나가길래 큰일 났다 싶었는데‥"

이 사고로 9명이 숨졌고 가해차량 운전자 부부를 포함해 6명이 다쳤습니다.

[박평국/목격자]
"'차가 우리 편의점 쪽으로 돌진했구나' 가보니까 이건 아수라장이네,챔피언스리그 라티움이런 전쟁도 없었어요.사방에 그냥 다치신 분들이 쓰러져서‥"

68살 운전자는 경기도에 있는 한 버스 회사에 소속된 운전 기사로 현장에서 급발진 사고라고 주장했습니다.

경찰은 급발진은 피의자 진술일 뿐이라며 사고 차량을 국립과학수사연구원에 감정 의뢰하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

음주 혐의는 없는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

경찰은 운전자를 교통사고처리특례법상 치사상 혐의로 입건했는데,챔피언스리그 라티움운전자가 갈비뼈 골절상으로 입원해 아직 정식 경찰 조사는 이뤄지지 않았습니다.

"운전자도 부상돼 있기 때문에 진술이 가능한 시점에 진술을 진행토록,챔피언스리그 라티움그렇게 조사를 진행하도록 하겠습니다."

이번 사고로 한 시중은행 직원 4명이 숨졌으며 서울시청 직원도 2명이 사망했습니다.
