소녀상 옆에 설치된 비문에는 일본군이 많은 여성을 강제로 데려가 성노예로 삼았는데도 일본 정부가 위안부의 존재를 부정하고 있다는 등의 내용이 담긴 것으로 전해집니다.

현지 매체는 주이탈리아 일본 대사가 20일 스틴티노시를 방문해 발레벨라 시장에게 제막식 연기를 요청했다고 밝혔습니다.

대사는 일본이 범죄를 사과했다면서 비문이 사실과 다르다고 항의한 것으로 전해집니다.

시장은 연기 요청을 거부하면서도 비문의 진위를 가리기 위해 확인이 필요하다는 입장을 밝혔다고 이 매체는 전했습니다.

발레벨라 시장은 "하지만 우리가 주목해야 할 것은 전쟁 중 여성에게 가해진 폭력"이라며 "한국의 피해자들은 팔레스타인 등 전쟁 폭력으로 고통받는 모든 여성을 대표한다고 믿는다"고 강조한 것으로 전해졌습니다.
