(서울=연합뉴스) 김현수 기자 = 신약 개발 기업 제넥신이 바이오 프로탁(PROTAC) 플랫폼 기술 기업 이피디바이오테라퓨틱스를 흡수 합병한다.

제넥신은 26일 이사회를 열어 이 같은 소규모 합병을 결의했다고 밝혔다.합병 세부 절차는 오는 10월께 완료될 예정이다.

혁신 표적 단백질 분해제(TPD) 기술의 한 종류인 프로탁은 체내 단백질 분해 시스템을 이용해 질병을 유발하는 단백질을 분해한다.

이번 합병을 통해 제넥신은 프로탁 전문 인력을 충원해 신약 개발을 촉진할 예정이다.

제넥신은 향후 주주총회를 거쳐 홍성준 대표와 최재현 이피디바이오 대표를 각자 대표 체제로 전환할 방침이다.

각자 대표 체제로 전환되면 홍 대표는 사업 개발과 경영 관리 분야를,제임스 존스최 대표는 연구개발(R&D)과 임상 개발 분야를 맡을 예정이다.

홍 대표는 "이피디바이오의 바이오 프로탁 기술력과 제넥신이 보유한 임상 개발 및 CMC(화학·제조·품질) 개발 역량을 접목해 세계 시장을 주도할 수 있는 혁신 신약 개발을 위한 도전을 이어갈 것"이라고 전했다.
