안덕근 산업부 장관은 7일 국내 기업·학계의 인공지능(AI) 분야 전문가들이 참석한 가운데 '제1차 인공지능(AI) 시대의 신(新) 산업정책 전문가간담회'를 개최했다.

이번 간담회는 AI 산업정책 수립이 본격화되는 시점에서 실제 현장에서 AI를 활용하고 있는 기업인들의 시각에서 AI의 산업활용 전망과 AI 시대 산업전략에 대한 제언을 청취하고자 마련됐다.

최재식 카이스트(KAIST) AI대학원 교수 겸 인이지 대표는 발제를 통해 "제조분야 AI 기술수준은 글로벌 선도국 대비 상대적으로 저조하다"며 "2030년까지 AI 기술을 개발·도입하는 선두주자와 추격자 간 성과차이가 클 것"이라며 속도감 있는 정책 추진을 촉구했다.

안 장관은 "AI가 매우 빠르게 발전하는 만큼 활용전략 수립에도 속도가 매우 중요하다는 점에 공감한다"며 "지난달 자율제조 전략에 이어 이번 달 AI 디자인 확산 전략을 발표할 계획"이라고 밝혔다.

이어 "시의성 있는 정책을 위해 AI 기술에 대한 이해가 필수적"이라며 "산업부 내부적으로도 AI 기술과 활용방안에 관련한 브라운백 미팅을 지속 개최하는 등 AI를 열심히 배워나가겠다"고 덧붙였다．
