(서울=연합뉴스) 윤고은 기자 = 중국의 외과의사가 이탈리아 로마에서 원격 수술로 중국 베이징에 있는 환자의 전립선 제거 수술에 성공했다고 사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP)가 11일 보도했다.

그러면서 세계 최초 실시간 대륙횡단 원격 로봇 전립선 제거 수술이라고 설명했다.

보도에 따르면 장 과장은 로마에서 환자가 있는 베이징의 수술방에 놓인 로봇팔을 원격 조정해 수술을 진행했다.

수술은 환자의 실시간 모습을 보여주는 수술 콘솔(console)을 활용해 집도의가 로봇팔의 움직임을 포착하고 지시하는 방식으로 이뤄졌다.

장 과장은 CCTV에 "원격 수술의 최대 문제는 통신이며 그것에 지연이 발생하느냐 여부"라며 "오늘날 수술은 기본적으로 지연이 없고 거의 현장 수술과 같다"고 말했다.

이번 수술에 앞서 장 과장 팀은 원격 수술과 관련된 동물 대상 실험 연구를 100여차례 진행했다.

장 과장은 원격 수술이 미래 군 의료 분야에서 사용될 수 있다면서 중국의 국제 수색과 구조 팀을 위해 원격 수술 장비를 설치할 계획이라고 말했다.
