대구시와 협력 위한 협약 체결

한국수력원자력이 대구 군위군에 700MW(메가와트) 규모 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 건립을 추진한다.SMR은 대형 원전에 비해 건설 기간이 짧고 전력 수요지 인근에 설치할 수 있어 유망한 차세대 무탄소 전원으로 꼽힌다.

한수원은 17일 대구시청에서 혁신형 SMR 협력을 위한 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.양 기관은 대구경북통합신공항 일대 부지의 적합성과 경제성 등 타당성 조사를 해나갈 계획이다.주민 설득 및 수용성 제고,더비휠사업화 노력 등에서도 적극 협력할 방침이다.

지난달 발표된 제11차 전력수급기본계획 실무안에서는 2035~36년까지 SMR 1기(4개 모듈)을 건립해 700MW의 무탄소 전력을 확보한다는 계획이 제시된 바 있다.

한수원은 지난해 12월 혁신형 SMR 기본설계를 성공적으로 마무리했다.정부 연구개발 사업으로 추진하고 있는 표준설계에도 주도적으로 참여하고 있다.

황주호 한수원 사장은 "이번 협약은 한수원의 혁신형 SMR 사업화 전략과 대구 신공항 일대에 저렴하고 청정한 에너지를 공급해 도시경쟁력을 강화하려는 대구시의 의지가 맞물린 것"이라며 "한수원은 앞으로도 혁신형 SMR 활용을 원하는 지자체들 및 에너지 다소비 기업과 지속적으로 협력을 이어가겠다"고 말했다.
