레벨4는 새로운 업무와 결과물을 창출할 수 있는 AI다.레벨5는 AGI 달성 직전 단계다.사람으로 구성된 전체 조직 업무를 대신 수행할 수 있는 AI다.

오픈AI는 현재 챗GPT 등 생성형 AI 서비스가 레벨1과 레벨2 사이 수준이라고 직원들에 알렸다.사용자 질문에 대답할 수 있고 기본적인 추론 문제를 박사학위자 수준으로 해결할 수 있기 때문이다.

다만 외신은 오픈AI가 레벨5를 뛰어넘는 AGI 단계에 도달하려면 아직 멀었다는 입장이다.이를 뒷받침하는 컴퓨팅 파워만 수십억 달러가 들 뿐만 아니라 추가 데이터센터 건립도 필요하기 때문이다.

현재 오픈AI 내부에선 AGI 달성 시점을 다양하게 보고 있다.관계자들은 AGI 도달에 약 10년이 필요하다고 했다.샘 알트먼 오픈AI 최고경영자(CEO)는 지난해 10월 "AGI에 도달하기까지 5년 정도 걸릴 것"이라 밝혔다.
