일본의 침략에 맞서 항일 의병운동을 이끈 면암 최익현(1833∼1907)의 옷과 신발이 국가유산이 됩니다.

국가유산청은 '면암 최익현 관복 일괄'을 국가민속문화유산으로 지정할 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.

면암 최익현은 구한말 대표적인 우국지사로 꼽힙니다.

사헌부 지평,사간원 정언 등 여러 관직을 지낸 그는 1905년 일제가 대한제국의 외교권을 박탈한 을사늑약 체결에 반발해 전북 태인(지금의 정읍)에서 의병을 일으켰습니다.

70대 나이에 의병장 활동으로 체포돼 대마도에 유배된 그는 1907년 순국했습니다.

이번에 국가민속문화유산으로 지정 예고된 유물은 단령(團領),포커사모(紗帽),삽금대(鈒金帶),포커호패(號牌),목화(木靴) 등 총 5건입니다.

단령은 관직에 있는 사람이 입던 옷으로,포커최익현이 당하관을 지내던 1855∼1870년에 착용한 것입니다.

조선 후기 당하관이 입던 단령 형태와 제작 양식을 따르고 있습니다.

관복을 착용할 때 머리에 쓰는 사모는 당상관 관직을 받은 1870년 이후에 쓴 것으로 추정되며,당시 제작 기술과 재료를 살펴볼 수 있어 의미가 큽니다.

허리에 두르던 띠인 삽금대는 19세기말 공예 기술의 변화를 엿볼 수 있는 흔적입니다.

오늘날의 주민등록증처럼 조선시대에 16세 이상 남성에게 발급했던 호패에는 '을묘'(1855년을 뜻함)라는 글자와 최익현의 이름이 새겨져 있어 제작 연대와 착용자를 알 수 있습니다.

국가유산청 관계자는 "관복 일괄 유물은 19세기 후반기 복식 연구뿐 아니라 공예 기술과 재료 연구를 위한 실증적 자료로서 가치가 크다"고 설명했습니다.

국가유산청은 예고 기간 30일 동안 각계 의견을 들은 뒤,문화유산위원회 심의를 거쳐 '면암 최익현 관복 일괄'의 지정 여부를 확정할 계획입니다.
