[디지털데일리 강소현기자] LS전선은 약 1조원을 투자해 미국 최대 규모의 해저케이블 공장을 건설한다고 10일 밝혔다.

공장은 미국 동부 버지니아주 엘리자베스강 유역에 7만제곱미터(약 2만평) 규모로 지어진다.내년 착공해 2027년 준공 예정이다.세계에서 가장 높은 200m 규모의 전력 케이블 생산타워도 갖추게 된다.

LS전선은 미국 해저케이블 시장이 향후 10년간 연평균 30% 이상 성장할 것으로 전망했다.이를 선점하기 위해 선제적으로 진출한다는 전략이다.

LS전선은 주정부로부터 약 4800만 달러 규모의 보조금과 세제 혜택을 받게 된다.이로써 에너지부(DOE)의 9900만 달러의 IRA 지원을 포함해 총 1억4700만 달러(약 2027억원) 규모의 지원을 확보했다.이는 미국에 진출한 글로벌 전선업체 중 최대 규모다.

구본규 LS전선 대표는 “이번 투자는 전 세계적으로 급증하는 해저케이블 수요에 대응할 수 있는 역량을 강화하고,LS전선이 글로벌 선도기업으로서 입지를 공고히 하는 데 기여할 것이다”고 전했다.

글렌 영킨(Glenn Youngkin) 버지니아 주지사는 “버지니아주의 숙련된 인력,알두하일 순위세계적인 수준의 입지 조건과 비즈니스 환경이 LS그린링크의 투자 유치를 이끌었다”고 말했다.
