(동해=연합뉴스) 유형재 기자 = 강원 동해시는 5일 동해시청 통상상담실에서 동해항 및 항만배후지역 활성화를 위한 '동해항 항만형 자유무역지역 투자 의향 MOU 협약식'을 했다.

협약식에는 심규언 동해시장과 LS에코에너지 대표,동원LOEX 울산지사장,토토로버스 디자인카페화남코퍼레션 대표,토토로버스 디자인카페용문기업 대표 등을 비롯해 시 관계자와 기업 임원진도 참석했다.

협약 내용은 항만배후단지 및 항만형 자유무역지역 지정을 추진 중인 송정동·나안동 일대 33만3천㎡에 앞으로 이들 기업이 입주하거나 물류 창고 등 시설 투자 등이다.

시는 지난달 8일부터 시행된 '자유무역지역 지정 특례'에 맞춰 동해항 육상항만구역 72만6천㎡와 송정동·나안동 배후지 33만3천㎡를 결합한 106만㎡ 규모의 부지를 자유무역지역 지정을 위해 용역을 추진 중이다.

시는 이번 협약을 통한 투자 유치로 동해항 활성화와 항만배후단지 및 항만형 자유무역지역 지정에도 큰 힘이 될 것으로 기대한다.

심규언 동해시장은 "이번 협약식을 통해 자유무역지역 지정 신청에 관한 추진력을 얻었다"며 "중장기적으로는 동해항과 배후지를 항만배후단지개발 종합계획에 포함되는 내용을 반영해 환동해권 복합물류 거점 항만으로 육성하겠다"고 말했다.
