[헤럴드경제=김현경 기자] 미국 전기차 제조업체 테슬라의 일론 머스크 최고경영자(CEO)가 공언한 자율주행 로보택시(무인택시) 공개가 두 달 가량 미뤄질 전망이다.

블룸버그통신은 11일(현지시간) 소식통을 인용,샌드 박스 블록 체인테슬라가 8월로 예정했던 로보택시 공개를 10월로 연기하기로 했다고 보도했다.

소식통은 2개월의 연기는 이미 내부적으로 전달이 됐다고 전했다.

로보택시 공개 연기는 시제차량 제작에 필요한 시간이 더 필요한 데 따른 것으로,샌드 박스 블록 체인이미 이번 주에 디자인팀에는 차량의 일부 요소를 다시 작업하라는 지시가 내려졌다고 소식통은 설명했다.

테슬라 로보택시 공개는 머스크 CEO가 지난 4월 자신의 엑스(X,샌드 박스 블록 체인옛 트위터) 계정에 밝히면서 관심을 모았다.

그는 "테슬라 로보택시가 8월 8일 공개된다"고 공언한 바 있다.

머스크 CEO는 다른 구체적인 내용은 밝히지 않았지만 시장은 이에 주목해 당시 테슬라 주가가 5% 가까이 오르기도 했다.

최근 테슬라 주가의 오름세에도 로보택시에 대한 기대감이 반영됐다.테슬라 주가는 전날까지 11거래일 연속 상승했다.

그러나 로보택시 연기 소식 등으로 이날 테슬라 주가는 장 중 한때 8% 넘게 폭락하기도 했다.

머스크 CEO는 테슬라 자체 자율주행 기술을 이용해 무인으로 주행하며 택시처럼 요금을 받고 승객을 태우겠다는 구상을 하고 있다.

그는 2019년 4월 '테슬라 자율 투자자 데이' 행사에서 "2020년 로보택시 운행을 예상하는 건 매우 자신 있다"며 1년 후인 2020년에 100만 대 이상의 테슬라 자율주행차가 도로를 누비게 될 것이라고 예상했었다.

로보택시 분야는 이미 구글 알파벳의 웨이모와 제너럴모터스(GM)의 크루즈 등이 진출해 경쟁이 치열한 상황이다.
