민선 8기 들어 도시공사 설립을 추진해 온 이권재 시장은 "올해 말까지 도시공사 설립을 위한 모든 절차를 마무리하고 내년 초 공사를 정식 출범하려 한다"며 "각종 개발사업의 공공성 확보,지역맞춤형 개발,수익 창출 및 지역 재투자 등을 통해 지역경제 발전에 공헌하는 건실한 도시공사가 되게 노력하겠다"고 밝혔다.
