김병수 시장은 "반려가구는 꾸준히 증가해 오고 있는데 이보다 더 중요한 것은 우리사회의 반려동물에 대한 인식변화"라며 "반려동물은 더 이상 가축,애완동물이 아닌 우리의 가족이다.반려동물 공공진료센터는 반려문화를 복지분야로 인식하는 것에서 시작했고 김포시가 반려동물 친화도시의 선두로 나서겠다"고 말했다.

반려동물 공공진료센터는 운양역 환승센터 공영주차장 A동 1층에 위치하고 있으며 진료실,임상병리검사실,X-Ray실,처치실,놀이실 등으로 구성되어 있다.
