'RE100'은 2014년 9월 열린 국제연합(UN) 기후 정상회의에서 비영리 국제단체 '클라이밋 그룹'과 탄소정보공개프로젝트(COP)의 제안으로 도입된 세계적인 캠페인이다.기업이 소비하는 전력의 100%를 재생에너지로 조달하겠다는 민간 차원의 자발적 운동이다.

서경덕 성신여대 교수는 전날 "세계적으로 주목받는 환경 캠페인 공식 사이트에 잘못된 태극기가 사용되는 건 전 세계 누리꾼에게 오해를 불러일으킬 수 있다"며 "시정을 요청하는 항의 메일을 보냈다"고 밝힌 바 있다.

전 세계 곳곳에서 잘못된 태극기가 사용된 경우는 이번이 처음이 아니다.아시아축구연맹(AFC)의 2022 카타르 월드컵 아시아 지역 예선 대진표와 세계적 테마파크 레고랜드의 기념품 티셔츠에도 엉터리 태극기가 사용돼 논란이 됐다.

지난 1월에는 프랑스 보도 전문 채널 LCI에서 북한 관련 소식을 전하면서 태극기를 일장기와 합성한 그래픽을 송출했다.

서 교수는 "한 나라의 얼굴인 국기가 잘못 사용된 곳은 반드시 고쳐야 한다"며 "한류가 세계인들에게 주목받는 지금이 태극기를 올바르게 알릴 수 있는 적기"라고 강조했다.
