(대구=연합뉴스) 한무선 기자 = 경북대 차기 총장 후보자 선출을 위한 선거에서 신소재공학과 허영우 교수가 1위를 차지했다.

경북대는 25일 허 교수와 이형철 자연과학대 물리학과 교수를 제20대 총장 후보자로 선정했다.

이날 치러진 경북대 총장임용후보자 선거에서 허 교수는 45.61%를 득표해 1순위 후보자로,룰렛 더블배팅37.52%를 얻은 이 교수가 2순위 후보자로 각각 선출됐다.

이번 선거는 모두 9명이 후보로 등록한 가운데 3차례 공개토론회와 1차례 합동연설회를 거쳐 온라인 투표로 진행됐다.

1차 투표 결과 과반을 득표한 후보자가 없어 1차 투표에서 1위와 2위를 차지한 이 교수(16.84%)와 허 교수(13.37%)를 대상으로 2차 투표를 거친 결과 허 교수가 이 교수 득표율을 앞섰다.

선거 결과에 따라 경북대는 1순위자인 허 교수와 2순위자인 이 교수를 총장임용후보자로 교육부에 추천할 예정이다.

이후 대통령 임명을 받는 새 총장이 발령일로부터 4년간 총장직을 수행하게 된다.
