밀린 월세를 독촉한다는 이유로 격분해 집주인 부부에게 흉기를 휘두른 한 50대 세입자가 중형을 선고받았다.

지난 26일 창원지법 형사2부(김성환 부장판사)는 살인미수 혐의로 기소된 세입자 A씨에게 징역 18년을 선고했다고 밝혔다.

A씨는 지난해 12월 27일 경남 거제시 한 주거지에서 이곳 집주인 50대 B씨 부부를 흉기로 살해하려다 미수에 그친 혐의를 받는다.

그는 같은 해 5월 보증금 100만원,여자 연예인 월드컵월세 20만원 조건으로 B씨 부부와 임대 계약을 맺고 이곳에서 지냈다.

하지만 입주 당시부터 집 상태가 계약 내용과 다르다는 이유로 갈등이 있었고 A씨는 사비로 수리한 뒤 B씨 부부에게 그 비용을 줄 것을 요구해왔다.B씨 부부가 이를 거부하자 같은 해 8월부터는 일부러 월세를 내지 않았다.

이후 월세 납부를 독촉받자 A씨는 그동안 밀린 월세를 지급하되 B씨 부부에게 경제적 피해 보상과 사과를 요구하고,여자 연예인 월드컵만약 이를 거부당할 경우 B씨 부부를 살해하기로 마음먹었다.

사건 당일 A씨는 B씨 부부와 만난 자리에서 월세를 내는 대신 피해 보상과 사과를 요구했으나 거절당하자 미리 준비해간 흉기로 B씨 부부를 공격했다.

B씨 부부는 A씨 공격에 격렬히 저항하면서 목숨은 건졌으나 여러 차례 수술받는 등 후유증이 심한 상태다.

조사에 따르면 A씨는 상해죄 등 폭력 범죄로만 12번의 형사처벌을 받은 전력이 있는 것으로 확인됐다.

재판부는 "피해자들이 목숨을 잃지 않은 것은 A씨가 휘두른 흉기가 치명적 부위를 우연히 비껴갔고 죽을힘을 다해 저항했기 때문으로 사실상 두 명에 대한 살인에 버금갈 만큼 불법성과 가벌성이 중대하다"고 판시했다.

이어 "그럼에도 피해자들이 A씨를 찔렀다는 황당한 변명으로 범행을 부인하고 피해자들에게 미안한 마음을 가져야 하는지 되묻는 등 일말의 반성조차 보이지 않는 점 등을 고려했다"고 양형 이유를 밝혔다.
