핀란드‘사일로 AI’9205억원에 인수

[헤럴드경제=김현경 기자] 미국 반도체업체 AMD가 유럽의 인공지능(AI) 스타트업을 인수하며 AI 칩 선두 주자 엔비디아와의 경쟁에 박차를 가하고 있다.

AMD는 핀란드 AI 스타트업인‘사일로 AI(Silo AI)’를 6억6500만달러(약 9205억원)에 인수한다고 10일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

사일로 AI는 개별 기업의 요구에 맞춘 AI 모델과 시스템을 만드는 스타트업으로,레스터 시티 fc유럽 최대 민간 인공지능 연구소 중 하나로 알려져 있다.

독일 보험 기업인 알리안츠와 영국의 다국적 기업 유니레버,레스터 시티 fc영국의 럭셔리 자동차 제조사 롤스로이스 등을 고객사로 두고 있다.

뱀시 보파나는 AMD 수석 부사장은 “신뢰할 수 있는 AI 전문가로 구성된 사일로 AI 팀과 최첨단 대형언어모델(LLM) 등 시장을 선도하는 AI 모델과 설루션을 개발한 우리의 경험을 접목해 AMD의 AI 전략을 더욱 가속하고,레스터 시티 fc글로벌 고객을 위한 AI 설루션 구축 및 신속한 구현을 발전시켜 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.

사일로 AI는 AMD의 AI 조직에 속하게 되며 피터 살린 사일로 AI 공동 창업자 겸 최고경영자(CEO)가 팀을 계속 이끌게 된다.

블룸버그통신은 “AMD는 AI 관련 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 빠르게 개발해 AI 시장 진출을 꾀하고 있다”며 “사일로 AI의 인수로 엔비디아와 격차를 좁힐 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”고 평했다.

미 동부 시간 기준 이날 낮 12시 35분 뉴욕 증시에서 AMD 주가는 전날보다 3.45% 오른 183.21달러에 거래됐다.

올해 엔비디아 주가가 150% 이상 급등한 데 비해 AMD 주가는 전날까지 20% 상승에 그쳤다.
