정명석은 여신도들을 성폭행한 혐의로 실형을 선고받고 지난 2018년 2월 출소했다.이후에도 그는 2021년 9월까지 호주와 홍콩,한국 여신도를 23차례에 걸쳐 준강간 및 강제 추행한 혐의로 구속기소 돼 지난해 12월 1심에서 징역 23년을 선고받고 항소했다.

형사소송법에 따르면 피고인의 구속기간은 최대 2개월이며 2심과 3심에서는 2개월씩 최대 3번 구속기간을 연장할 수 있다.검찰은 이미 정명석의 구속기간을 지난 1월,3월,러쉬 카지노6월 등 3차례 연장했다.

이에 정명석의 해당 혐의 항소심 구속 기간은 오는 15일 만료될 예정이었다.

그러나 검찰은 지난 5월 여신도 2명을 유사 강간하는 등 혐의로 정명석을 추가로 불구속기소 한 바 있다.검찰은 정명석이 불구속 상태로 재판을 받을 수도 있는 상황이 되자 불구속기소 한 혐의를 심리하는 대전지법 제11형사부에 직권으로 구속영장 발부를 요청했다.

최 판사는 지난 12일 정명석에 대한 추가 구속 여부를 결정하는 심문을 진행한 뒤 "도주 우려가 있다"며 그에 대한 추가 구속영장을 발부했다.
