페르시치티 씨는 2차대전의 분수령이었던 연합국의 노르망디 상륙작전을 기념하는 행사에 참석하기 위해 장거리 여행의 위험을 감수하고 유럽을 찾았습니다.

미국 내 2차대전 박물관 단체와 연계된 그룹의 일원으로 간 것이었습니다.

그러나 심장 질환 병력이 있었던 고인은 중간 기착지에서 노르망디로 가는 선박 안에서 응급 의료 상황에 처했고,항공편을 통해 독일의 한 병원으로 이송됐으나 끝내 사망했습니다.

고인은 미군 지휘함 '엘도라도'의 무선기사로 2차대전에 참전해 이오지마,프로야구 친선경기오키나와,프로야구 친선경기괌 등지에서 일본군에 맞서 싸웠습니다.
