새벽 시간에 인천 도로에서 도로 점검 작업을 하던 60대 작업자가 과속 차량에 치여 숨지는 사건이 발생했다.

26일 인천 서부경찰서에 따르면 이날 오전 0시 40분쯤 인천시 서구 금곡동 도로에서 20대 A씨가 몰던 승용차가 작업을 하던 60대 B씨를 치었다.

이 사고로 B씨가 숨졌으며 A씨도 허리를 다쳐 병원 치료를 받았다.

경찰 조사에 따르면 사고 당시 B씨는 도로 위에 설치된 카메라를 교체하는 작업에 투입됐다가 신호수 역할을 한 것으로 파악됐다.B씨를 친 차량은 이후에도 30m 가량을 더 달려간 것으로 전해졌다.

목격자들은 "차량 여러 대가 폭주족처럼 과속하며 달렸다"고 경찰에 진술했다.

경찰은 A씨가 제한속도를 넘겨 차량을 몰다가 사고를 낸 것으로 보고 교통사고처리 특례법상 치사 혐의로 A씨를 긴급체포했다.

경찰 관계자는 "사고가 난 도로는 편도 2차로로 좁아지기 직전의 3차로였고,서초구 지도제한속도는 시속 50㎞"라며 "목격자 진술 등을 토대로 정확한 사고 경위를 조사할 예정"이라고 말했다.
