(서울=연합뉴스) 김경윤 기자 = 미국의 비디오 아트 거장 빌 비올라 작가가 12일 캘리포니아주(州) 롱비치 자택에서 별세했다고 국제갤러리가 15일 밝혔다.향년 73세.

비올라 작가는 1951년 뉴욕에서 태어나 1973년 시러큐스대 스튜디오 학과에서 수학했다.

1995년 제46회 베네치아 비엔날레에 미국 대표 작가로 참가해 '더 그리팅'을 선보였고 2002년에는 거대 설치 작품인 '고잉 포스 바이 데이'를 제작했다.

대표작은 2004년 독일 작곡가 리하르트 바그너의 오페라 '트리스탄과 이졸데'를 재해석한 뒤 음악과 공연,야생 팬더 카지노 슬롯 게임 무료비디오 아트를 결합해 만든 '더 트리스탄 프로젝트'다.
