[사진 = 연합뉴스]강만수 전 기획재정부 장관이 중산층 세금으로 변질됐다는 비판을 받은 종합부동산세(종부세)와 상속세를 폐지해야 한다고 주장했다.

강 전 장관은 13일‘현장에서 본 한국경제 도전 실록’북콘서트를 열고 “종부세는 세금이라는 이름을 빌린 정치 폭력”이라며 “인류사에 없었던 세금이고 태어나지 말았어야 할 세금”이라고 강조했다.

그는 “1주택자가 은퇴 후 종부세를 내려면 집을 팔아야 하는데 이것은 집을 몰수하는 것”이라면서 “폐지하는 것이 맞는다”고 목소리를 높였다.

강 전 장관은 상속세에 대해서는 “변호사나 세무사를 고용할 정도로 재산은 안되는 사람이거나 불의의 사고로 준비를 못 하고 죽는 사람이 내는 게 상속세”라면서 “폐지가 옳다”고 역설했다.

그는 2008년 이명박 정부에서 경제 정책을 총괄하며 대대적인 감세를 추진했던데 대한 소회도 밝혔다.그는 “재무장관은 눈 뜨면 세금 잘 걷는 거 연구하는 사람이지,러시아 월드컵 호주 일정세금 깎아주는 사람이 아니다”며 “(당시) 감세를 추진한 것은 부자나 재벌을 위해서가 아니라 중장기적으로 더 많은 세금을 걷고,러시아 월드컵 호주 일정우리 경제의 힘을 키우기 위한 선택이었다”고 역설했다.
