8일(현지시간) AFP통신 등 외신에 따르면 미 유나이티드 항공이 운행하는 보잉 757-200기종 여객기가 이날 LA 공항 활주로에서 이륙한 후 바퀴가 떨어져 나가는 사고가 일어났다.사고 발생 후 여객기는 목적지인 덴버 공항에 안전하게 도착한 것으로 확인됐다.

해당 여객기에는 승객 174명과 승무원 7명이 타고 있었으며,태그호이어 오버홀부상자는 없었다고 AFP통신은 전했다.

유나이티드 항공은 성명을 통해 "문제의 바퀴는 LA에서 회수했으며 현재 사고 원인을 조사하고 있다"고 밝혔다.

유나이티드 항공의 보잉 여객기가 바퀴를 잃어버린 사고는 이번이 두 번째다.

앞서 지난 3월에도 미 샌프란시스코 공항에서 이륙한 유나이티드항공 보잉 777-200 여객기가 이륙 직후 바퀴가 빠진 사건이 발생했다.해당 여객기는 목적지인 일본 오사카가 아닌 LA로 우회해 긴급 착륙했다.

최근 잇따른 안전 문제로 미 당국의 압박을 받는 보잉은 산소마스크 문제로 미연방항공청(FAA)의 조사 지시까지 추가로 받았다.

FAA는 8일 보잉 737기의 비상시 승객용 산소마스크가 제대로 작동하지 않을 수 있다며 해당 기종 여객기를 조사하라는 명령을 내렸다.

이는 해당 기종 여객기 내 승객용 산소 발생기가 제 위치에서 벗어났다는 보고가 이어진 것에 따른 조치다.이번 명령은 현재 미국에 등록된 2600여대 보잉 737 항공기에 영향을 미친다.
