기존 금액형 상품은 연동된 브랜드 및 판매사가 관리하는 '잔액권' 형태만 있었다.이제 카카오가 발행·판매하는 모바일 교환권인 '관리형 잔액권'이 별도로 생기게 된다.아직 참여할 브랜드는 구체적으로 정해지지 않았고,미참여 브랜드는 기존 중개 방식으로 교환권을 판매하면 된다.

카카오 관계자는 "티메프 사태와 맞물리긴 했으나 기존 계획대로 진행한 것"이라며 "고객 서비스 차원에서 개정된 것이고 마침 티메프 사태로 인해 소비자들이 불안해 하는 시점이라 여러 약관 개정 중 해당 이슈를 안내를 드린 것"이라고 설명했다.
