한국이 세계관세기구(WCO) 정책·재정위원회 위원국에 연임됐다.

기획재정부는 지난달 27일(현지 시간)부터 29일까지 벨기에 브뤼셀에서 열린 WCO 제 143/144차 총회에서 한국이 정책·재정위 위원국으로 연임됐다고 1일 밝혔다.임기는 2026년 6월 30일까지다.

WCO 정책·재정위 위원직을 10년 이상 동시 연임한 국가는 한국을 비롯해 미국·일본·사우디아라비아 등 4개국뿐이다.한국은 2014년부터 WCO 정책위 위원국을 연임해왔다.재정위는 2012년부터 맡아왔다.

정책위는 WCO의 운영·활동·정책 전반을 총괄하는 위원회다.WCO에서 실질적인 최고 의사결정기구로 꼽힌다.재정위는 WCO의 예산 조달·지출·회계감사 등에 관한 사항을 결정한다.

그간 한국은 WCO 정책·재정위에 참여하며 전자원산지증명서 표준지침 제정,야구 선수 몸WCO 보유 품목 분류 결정문 전산화 지원 등에 기여해왔다.2021년엔 한국 정보기술(IT) 기업이 가상현실(VR) 수입물품 검사 프로그램 콘텐츠를 개발하기도 했다.

WCO는 관세 당국 간 협력,야구 선수 몸무역 관련 국제 표준 정립 등을 수행하는 국제기구다.현재 186개 회원국이 참여하고 있다.한국은 1968년 WCO에 가입했다.

기재부는 “앞으로도 관세 행정 관련 국제 표준을 선도해 국제적 위상을 높이겠다”며 “WCO 회원국을 포함한 주요 교역국들과 긴밀히 연대해 우리 수출 기업의 활력 제고에도 적극 기여할 계획”이라고 설명했다.
