앞서 지난해 영등포경찰서 형사과장으로 재직하던 백해룡 경정은 마약 조직원들과 세관 직원들의 유착 의혹을 수사할 당시 언론 브리핑을 앞두고 서울경찰청 생활안전부장이던 조 경무관으로부터 '보도자료에서 관세청을 빼라'는 외압을 받았다고 폭로했습니다.

조 경무관은 외압이 없었다고 반박했지만,유니스 코토코 셀카조지호 신임 경찰청장은 지난달 29일 국회 인사청문회에서 조 경무관에 대한 인사 조치를 검토하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

경찰청은 지난 2월 인사혁신처에 중앙징계위원회 소집을 요청했지만 조 경무관에게 징계가 내려지지 않아 논란이 일었습니다.
