지난달 27일 '순천 송광사 영산회상도 및 팔상도'의 국보 지정을 기념하는 행사가 한 달 만에 열렸습니다.

27일 오전 국가유산청은 순천시와 함께 송광사 대웅보전과 성보박물관에서 송광사 신도들과 지역주민이 함께 하는 기념행사를 개최했습니다.

기념행사에는 최응천 국가유산청장과 송광사 무자 주지스님,고경 성보박물관장스님 등을 비롯한 주요 관계자들이 참석했습니다.

행사는 국보지정서 전달,담시장 크록스현판제막 등을 마친 뒤,담시장 크록스성보박물관에서 '순천 송광사 영산회상도 및 팔상도'를 함께 관람하는 순서로 진행됐습니다.

2003년 보물로 지정된 이후 20여 년 만에 국보로 승격된 '순천 송광사 영산회상도 및 팔상도'는 송광사 영산전에 봉안하기 위해 일괄로 제작한 불화입니다.

이 불화는 영산회상도 1폭과 팔상도 8폭으로 구성됐습니다.

이 작품은 영산회상도를 중심으로 팔상도의 각 폭이 통일된 필선과 색채를 유지하고 있습니다.

'영산회상도'는 영산(靈山: 영취산)에서 석가모니가 제자들에게 설법하는 장면을 그린 불화입니다.

'팔상도'는 석가모니의 생애에서 역사적인 사건을 8개의 주제로 표현한 불화입니다.

이번 국보 지정은 지난 5월 17일 국가유산청 출범 이래 첫 사례로,이 작품 중 팔상도 4폭(도솔래의상,비람강생상,수하항마상,쌍림열반상)은 올해 호암미술관의 특별전시에 출품돼 관람객과 만난 뒤 최근 송광사로 돌아왔습니다.
