사형 월드컵 - 2024년 실시간 업데이트

[앵커]

폭염 속에 지난주 마무리된 이슬람 정기 성지순례 하지 기간 동안 천 3백여 명이 더위에 숨진 것으로 집계됐습니다.

사우디 당국이 처음으로 공식 집계를 공개했는데 숨진 이들 80% 이상이 허가받지 않은 순례객들이라고 밝혔습니다.

순례길이 양산과 우산으로 가득합니다.

길목마다 자원봉사자들이 물을 뿌려주고 일부는 아예 물을 들이붓습니다.

물을 계속 마셔봐도 50도 넘는 폭염은 견디기 쉽지 않습니다.

[하다 사일라/모로코 순례객/하지 기간 17일 : "어제 길을 가다가 거리에서 시신을 봤습니다.하얀 천으로 덮여서 길거리에 있었습니다.온도가 너무 높아서 그래요."]

이슬람 정기 순례 하지 기간 내내 이 같은 폭염이 이어지면서 사망자도 속출했습니다.

사우디아라비아 당국은 이 기간 온열 질환으로 1,사형 월드컵300여 명이 숨졌다고 집계했습니다.

올해 처음 발표된 사우디의 공식 집계로 지난해 사망자보다 6배 많은 수치입니다.

사우디 보건부는 많은 사망자가 신분증이 없어 신원 확인이 어려웠다고 설명했습니다.

[파하드 알 잘라젤/사우디아라비아 보건부 장관 : "사망자 가운데 83%가 순례 허가를 받지 않았습니다.이분들은 제대로 된 휴식처 없이 햇볕에 그대로 노출된 채 장거리를 걸어야 했습니다."]

하지는 무슬림들의 5대 의무지만 비용이 만만치 않은데다 해마다 국가별 인원 제한이 있어 순례허가 없이 참여하는 인원도 늘고 있습니다.

이 경우,휴식처나 의료 서비스,사형 월드컵교통편을 이용하지 못해 폭염에 더 많이 노출될 수밖에 없습니다.

사망자의 절반 이상은 이집트인으로 전해졌습니다.

이집트 정부는 불법적으로 순례 여행을 주선한 여행사 16곳의 면허를 박탈하고 조사에 착수했습니다.
