(서울=연합뉴스) 조승한 기자 = 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 개발 기업들이 SMR을 활용한 수소 생산과 해양 원자력 발전에 대한 규제체계 마련을 정부에 요청했다.

한국산업기술진흥협회는 11일 한국수력원자력 중앙연구원에서 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 산업 활성화를 위한 '민간 연구개발(R&D) 협의체 규제혁신 간담회'를 열었다고 밝혔다.

민간 R&D 협의체는 산기협과 과학기술정보통신부가 운영하는 것으로 11개 기술 분과 194개 기업이 참여하고 있다.

이번 간담회에는 협의체 SMR 분과 참여기업 16개 사와 정부 관계자 등 30여 명이 참석했다.

이날 참여기업들은 산업계 정책 수요로 ▲ 원자력 발전과 연계한 수소생산 시설 기준 마련 ▲ 해양 원자력 발전의 인허가 및 규제 체계 수립 ▲ 정부 주도 실증로 건설 추진 등을 꼽았다.

이상원 협의체 SMR 분과 위원장(한국수력원자력 처장)은 "국내 SMR 분야 인허가와 규제 체계는 선진국에 비해 미흡한 실정"이라며 "SMR 조기 상용화를 위해 정부의 지속적인 관심과 지원이 매우 중요하다"고 말했다.
