[앵커]

미국 보잉사의 유인 우주선 '스타라이너'가 첫 시험비행 발사에 성공했습니다.

그동안 기술적인 문제로 두 차례나 발사를 취소한 뒤 성공한 건데,더비 카운티 경기스페이스X 사와 더불어 민간 우주인 수송에 본격적인 경쟁이 시작될 것으로 보입니다.

뉴욕에서 박일중 특파원입니다.

현지 시각 오전 10시 52분 보잉사의 스타라이너 캡슐을 실은 아틀라스V 로켓이 하늘로 향합니다.

2분가량 지난 뒤 로켓을 지상에서 떠나게 했던 1단 엔진이 분리됩니다.

[발사 중계 방송 : "2단계는 스타라이너를 우주로 계속 밀어 올리기 위해 액체 수소와 산소를 원료로 하는 센토 엔진을 점화시키는 겁니다."]

이후 센토 엔진과도 분리되면서 궤도 비행을 시작한 스타라이너는 미국 시간으로 내일 국제우주정거장에 도착하게 됩니다.

스타라이너에는 미 항공우주국,더비 카운티 경기나사(NASA)소속 우주 비행사 두 명이 타고 있는데,이들은 8일간 국제우주정거장에 머문 뒤 지구로 돌아옵니다.

이번 스타라이너 캡슐 발사는 두 번의 발사 연기 끝에 성공한 것입니다.

무인 시험 비행을 한 지도 2년이 지난 시점입니다.

2014년 보잉과 함께 나사와 계약을 맺었던 스페이스X는 이미 2020년 유인 시험비행을 마치고 나사의 수송 임무를 수행해왔습니다.

스타라이너가 우주인 귀환까지 최종 성공하면 스페이스X의 크루 드래건과 경쟁 체제를 갖추게 될 가능성이 커지게 됩니다.

발사체 경쟁에서 한발 앞서고 있는 스페이스X는 미국 시간으로 내일,화성 탐사를 위한 스타십 발사체의 네 번째 시험에 나설 예정입니다.
