우리나라 3대 사찰 중 하나인 순천 송광사에 있는 영산회상도와 팔상도가 보물로 지정된 지 20여 년 만에 국보로 승격됐습니다.

불화가 국보로 승격된 건 아주 드문 일인데요.

일반에도 공개됐습니다.

◀ 리포트▶

도포 위 문양과 눈썹 한올 한올까지 섬세한 붓 터치가 돋보입니다.

색채는 붉은색이 주조를 이루면서 녹색과 황색이 어우러져 사용됐는데 대부분 옅게 채색돼 유려한 필선이 돋보입니다.

석가모니가 영취산에서 제자들에게 설법하는 모습을 묘사한 영산회상도,또 석가모니의 생애에서 역사적인 사건을 8개의 주제로 나눠 그린 팔상도입니다.

지난 1725년,화승인 의겸스님이 제자들과 함께 그려낸 작품입니다.

"(조선 후기) 양식으로 넘어가는 시기에 있어서 가장 대표적인 좀 기본적인 모델이 되는,실제로 팔상도 그림 전체가 남아있는 경우도 많지는 않습니다."

국보 승격을 기념하는 행사도 열렸습니다.

보물 지정된 지 21년만입니다.

신자와 시민들이 한자리에 모여 축하했는데,사우디 월드컵 엑스포주불화인 영산회상도와 8폭의 팔상도가 모두 공개되는 것은 이번이 처음입니다.

"낱낱이 경전을 다 설하지 아니하여도 모든 생사의 고뇌를 다 해결하는 방법을 설명해 놓았다… 이렇게 보시면 (됩니다)"

지난 5월 17일 출범한 국가유산청의 첫 국보 승격 사례입니다.

[최응천 / 국가유산청장]
"2003년에 보물로 지정된 이후 21년 만에 국보로 승격된 우리나라 대표적인 팔상도의 아마 가장 수작이 아닐까 생각이 듭니다."

송광사 측은 영산회상도와 팔상도를 오는 8월까지 모두 전시한 뒤,사우디 월드컵 엑스포일부 작품은 휴식기를 가질 계획입니다.
